Rev. Br. Dominic Savio Panachikkattu OCD of the Blessed Sacrament expired on 31st January, 2014, at the age of 85.
Mathai Panachikatt was born on 1st August 1929 at Ezhalloor. His parents were Joseph Panachikatt and Thresia Joseph. He had 3 sisters and3 brothers. He belonged to St. Sebastian’s Parish Church, Ezhalloor, Kothamangalam Diocese. After the Primary and Secondary education, he entered in the Novitiate and received the name Br. Dominic Savio Panachikkattu OCD of the Blessed Sacrament and made Simple Profession on 16th …….., 1950 at Thuckalay. He remained in the Order as a Tertiary brother.
Services of Rev. Br. Dominic Savio Panachikkattu OCD of the Blessed Sacrament:
Rev. Br. Dominic Savio OCD served as the Assistant Manager of St. Joseph’s Press. He was one among the few who worked hard for the good will of the Press. He had conventual services done at Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram; San Joe Ashram, Pottah; Carmel Ashram, Kalady and Lisieux Centre, Muvattupuzha etc.
Rev. Brother was so friendly to all the people whom he met and was helping them as he could. He was in our Novitiate House, Carmel Ashram, Kalady during his last years. He was admitted in the San Joe Hospital, Perumbavoor for a week due to fever. He was taking rest in our Novitiate House after discharging from the hospital. On 31st January, 2014 at 11.00 a.m., he was found dead in his bed. He seemed to be peacefully sleeping as usual. The friars confirmed his death. They called the doctor and the doctor diagnosed that he had a silent heart attack half an hour before.
Rev. Br. Dominic Savio Panachikkattu OCD was ready spiritually and mentally for his Master’s call. He made his confession at the eve of his death and received the Holy Communion in the morning. He cleaned his room well.
The mortal body of the Rev. Br. Dominic was taken to the mobile mortuary and kept in our chapel for the public. Rt. Rev. Mar Sebastian Edayantharath, the Auxiliary Bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly Diocese, officiated the first part of the funeral service held in our church. His mortal body was taken to Lisieux Centre, Muvattupuzha on 1st February 2014 at 1.30 p.m. The funeral service was officiated by Very Rev. Fr. Sebastian Koodapattu OCD, our Provincial, began at 3.00 p.m., was assisted by a large number of priests, religious, and lay faithful. The final rites were officiated by His Excellency Mar George Madathikadattu, Bishop of Kothamanglam. His mortal remains wee inferred into the cemetery at 5.30 p.m.
