Rev. Br. Felix OCD of Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel passed away on 20th May, 1995, at Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly due to heart attack, at the age of 80 in 53rd year of his Religious Profession.
Cruz Rayappan, son of D. Cruz and M. Vaihamma was born on 26th January, 1915 at Kalkurichi, belonging to the Diocese of Kottar, Tamil Nadu.
He joined our Order of Discalced Carmelites at Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram on 1st June 1939. After six months of Postulancy, he received the Holy Habit on 18th January, 1940 taking the new name Br. Felix OCD of Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel and made his Simple Profession on 19th January 1942 at Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram. Rev. Br. Felix made his Solemn Profession on 23rd February, 1945 at Carmel Hill Monastery. In February, 1992, Br. Felix celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his Solemn Profession at Carmel Ashram, Kalady.
Rev. Br. Felix was conventual in our monasteries at Thiruvananthapuram, Thuckalay, Ernakulam, Bengaluru, Ettumannoor and Kalady. From May 1989 until his unexpected demise in 1995, he was a conventual of our Novitiate House at Kalady. He was earnest and dedicated in the discharge of the various duties assigned to him in our different Communities. Memorable and praiseworthy were his simplicity and spirit of poverty.
Though an octogenarian, Rev. Br. Felix OCD of Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel had no serious ailments, he maintained good health until the last. On 19th May 1995 evening by 10.00 p.m. he complained of a sudden chest pain and he was rushed to the nearby hospital where he died of heart attack at 1.00 a.m. His funeral took place on Sunday at 11.00 a.m. in the Monastery Crypt of Carmel Hill Monastery. Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Mary Karuvinapakuthiyil OCD was the main Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and Rev. Fr, Zacharias Kariyilakulam OCD gave the funeral oration. His Excellency Dr. M. Soosai Pakiam officiated the funeral rites. A good number of priests, religious and laity participated in the funeral ceremony.
