Rev. Br. Joseph Pariyadan OCD of the Holy Spirit expired on 11th March, 2018, at the age of 78.
Rev. Br. Joseph Pariyadan OCD of the Holy Spirit was born on 6th June, 1940. Ouseph and Eliya were his parents. He belonged to Pariyadam Parish of Irinjalakuda Diocese. He joined the Malabar Province of the Order of Discalced Carmelites on 13th December, 1965 taking the new name Br. Joseph Pariyadan of the Holy Spirit. His Simple Profession was on 8th August 1968 and Solemn Profession was on 8th August 1973.
Br. Joseph met with an accident while crossing the highway road at Apollo Hospital side in Chalakkudy and died on the spot on 11th March, 2018, at 8.00 a.m. The car driver who hit the brother took him to St. James Hospital, Chalakudy. Rev. Fr. Varghese Pathadam, the Director of the hospital, informed our fathers to Rev. Fr. Thomas Muzhuthettu, Superior of San Joe Ashram, Pottah, who rushed to the hospital with other community members dealt with the police verifications and Postmortem of brother’s body. After the police verifications, the body was taken to the Chalakudy Taluk Hospital at 2.30 p.m. for Postmortem and the process was completed by 7 p.m. The mortal remains were brought to Cherupushpa Ashram, Ettumanoor by 9.30 p.m.
Rev. Fr. Paul Mundackal, the Assistant Superior of the community said the Office of the Dead and our seminarians and sisters from nearby convents participated in it. At night, Archbishop Mar Joseph Perumthottam, Archbishop of Changanacherry Arch-diocese and Rev. Fr. Mani Puthiyedom, Manager, Deepika followed by many fathers and sisters of the nearby seminaries and convents, said the Office of the Dead. On 12th March after the Holy Mass at 9.15 a.m.
Brother’s body was transferred to Lisieux Centre, Muvattupuzha for the funeral. Mar George Punnakkottil, the Bishop Emeritus of Kothamangalam, followed by the fathers of our own communities and neighbouring institutes and parishes said the Office of the Dead. Very Rev. Fr. Francis Kunnelpurayidam, the Vicar Provincial, presided over the funeral Mass at 3.00 p.m. together with the concelebrants Mgr. George Kompara, Vicar General of Trichur Diocese (a relative of Rev. Br. Joseph Pariyadan) and Rev. Fr. George Edapulavan, Superior, Cherupushpa Ashram, Ettumannoor. By 5.00 p.m., Mar George Madathikandathil, Bishop of Kothamangalam, conducted the funeral service. 53 priests, 7 non-clerical OCD brothers, about 150 relatives of the Br. Joseph Pariyadam participated in the funeral Holy Mass and services. Rev. Br. Joseph Pariyadam OCD of the Holy Spirit will be remembered for his whole-hearted service to the Malabar Province, where he belonged, as a full-time sacristian and his simple lifestyle.
