Rev. Br. Redemptus OCD of the Cross, slept in the Lord on 3rd February, 1982, at the age of 74 in 49th year of his Profession.
Saverimuthu was born of pious parents Thomas and Anna, on 1st of January, 1908 at Karangadu belonging to the Diocese of Kottar in Tamil Nadu. He joined in the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in 1930 at Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram. Having completed the period of the Canonical Postulancy, he received the Holy Habit of the Order on 20th December 1930 and took the new name Rev. Br. Redemptus OCD of the Cross. He made his Simple Profession on 21st January, 1932 at Carmel Hill and his Solemn Profession on 20th December, 1936.
Br. Redemptus had been very diligent in discharging all duties assigned to him. He served in various communities – Thiruvananthapuram, Thuckalay, Ernakulam, Ettumanoor etc. about 50 years after his Simple Profession. He was the main sacristan in our monasteries. Everyone, who encountered with him was attracted by his benevolent behaviour seasoned with religious decorum. In spite of his physical infirmities, Br. Redemptus was always cheerful and serviceable.
On Tuesday, 2nd February, 1982 he was admitted in the Lissie Hospital, Ernakulam for some indigestive complaints and on the following day, on 3rd February 1982, after receiving the Sacraments of the Church, he flew away to the Lord. His body had been brought to Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram and was buried in the crypt of the Monastery on the same day itself.
Rev. Redemptus of the Cross, was always been an exemplary religious throughout his life in our Order. He was a man of prayer. He spent much time meditating before the Blessed Sacrament. He died peacefully commencing his soul in the hands of the Lord.
