Rev. Fr. Job Edasserry OCD of St. John of the Cross, expired on 13th April, 1993, at Madhava Pharmacy Hospital, Ernakulam due to heart attack, at the age of 42 in 22nd year of his Religious Profession.
Kunjio Edasserry, son of Ouseph Edasserry and Katherine Chittilappilly was born on 5th September, 1953 at Edakunny, belonging to the Archdiocese of Ernakulam. He joined our Order of the Discalced Carmelites, at Cherupushpa Ashram, Ettumannoor, on 3rd June, 1970 and did his one year Postulancy there. He had his second year Postulancy at Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram. He received the Holy Habit on 23rd April 1972 taking the new name Br. Job Edasserry OCD of St. John of the Cross at St. Elias’ Monastery, Thuckalay, Tamil Nadu. After completing one year of Canonical Novitiate at Thuckalay, he made his Simple Profession on 24th April, 1973.
On September 15, 1973, he returned to Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram for his Philosophical Studies. He was there till 1979 and on 7th January, 1979 he made his Solemn Profession at St. Teresa’s Monastery, Ernakulam. He did his Theology at Teresianum, Rome from 1979 onwards. He was ordained priest on 6th June 1982 by HH Pope John Paul II.
Rev. Fr. Job returned to India in 1985 after his Licentiate in Ecclesiastical History at his Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome and was a conventual of Ávila Dhyanashram, Sengulam.

Rev. Fr. Job Edasserry OCD of St. John of the Cross, was very devoted and diligent discharging the duties assigned to him in our various Communities. His simplicity, spirit of poverty, availability to the Community and his dedication to his duties deserve special mention and praise. He was also well-known as a professor of Church History in various major seminaries and religious institutions all over India.
Rev. Fr. Job was suffering from Psoriasis and Arthritis for many years. Even then he carried out his duties and Offices with utmost dedication. On 10th April, 1995 he had a mild heart attack and was under observation for 48 hours in Madhava Pharmacy Hospital, adjacent to St. Teresa’s Monastery, Ernakulam. Slowly his condition became steady. On 12th evening, he had yet another heart attack, which became fatal and Rev. Fr. Job Edasserry OCD of St. John of the Cross, breathed his last at 6.00 a.m. on Maundy Thursday, 13th April, 1995 at the age of 42. His funeral took place on the following day – Good Friday – at 10.00 a.m. in the Monastery Crypt of Carmel Hill, Thiruvananthapuram. His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr. Soosai Pakiam, Bishop of Thiruvananthapuram officiated at the funeral rites and Rev. Fr. Zacharias Kariyilakulam OCD delivered the funeral oration.
