Rev. Fr. Thomas Pazhangattuparambil OCD of Jesus died on 5th May, 1984, at the age of 88 in 55th year of his Profession.
Xavier Pazhangattuparambil, son of Thomas and Anna, was born on 16th February, 1896 at Vallarpadam, in the Archdiocese of Verapoly. After his school education he worked as a school teacher.
Xavier joined our Order of the Discalced Carmelites in 1927 at Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram. He was one of the first novices in our Province to receive the Holy Habit of our Order on 1st June, 1928 taking the name Br. Thomas Pazhangattuparambil OCD of Jesus. He made the Simple Profession on 3rd June, 1929 and Solemn Profession on 3rd June 1932. He was ordained priest on 24th August, 1935 at Thuckalay, by Msgr. Lawrence Pereira, Bishop of Kottar.
Rev. Fr. Thomas Pazhangattuparambil OCD hold various offices in our Province – Parish Priest at Varapuzha; Director of Aspirants; Superior, St. Joseph’s Monastery, Varapuzha; Provincial Councilor and Vicar Provincial. He took part in the General Chapter of 1955.
Rev. Fr. Thomas loved simple life and was very punctual for the Religious Observances of the community. His zeal for people’s pastoral care and propagation of Marian Devotion were praiseworthy. As a man of prayer and interior life he was an inspiring example of our Carmelite way of life in the community.
In April, 1984 he was admitted in Lourdes Hospital, Ernakulam for better medications. Strengthened by the Holy Sacraments of the Church, he slept in the Lord at about 11.30 a.m. on 5th May, 1984. His body was brought to Carmel Hill Monastery, Thiruvananthapuram on 6th May and was interred in the Monastery crypt.
